The Oldest Inn in England,Wotton-under-Edge, Gloucestershire, England.Grade II listed, in 1145 AD.
The Ancient Ram Inn is believed to date as far back as 1145. John Humphries, the current owner, bought the property from a brewery back in 1968. The Ancient Ram is a Grade II listed building and John Humphries has spent the past 30 odd years renovating it. When he first moved in he was totally unaware that the place was haunted until he was awoken by someone with icy hands grabbing at his ankles and trying to pull him out of bed. His daughters also had several experiences. The Ancient Ram is believed to be built on an ancient burial ground where ritual killings took place. It is also opposite a henge. Apparently things happen on a daily and nightly basis ranging from tappings on windows, objects moving, strange smells, ghostly figures, people being pushed. Succubus, Ghost of an inn keeper, ghostly lady. baby crying, a monk, a cavalier. A frightening incubus creeps into the beds of terrified victims in the dead of night, scaring both owner and visitor alike. A succubus is the female version on an incubus, a negative entity that feeds off the sexuality of the living. Violent poltergeist activity, power drains, rattling of door knobs, footsteps, light anomalies, objects being moved, cold spots, an unexplained black cat, doors slamming. I found the Inn hidden at the bottom of a hill in Wotton-under-Edge. It is a rickety looking old house, it looks like it's actually sunk into the ground. The site in which this once Inn stands is known to be an ancient site on a major leyline. Bones of children have been unearthed by archaeologists inside the house and two ceremonial daggers have also found close by the bones. There are also stories of murder and bloodshed here. I didn't find the henge, only modern buildings surround it.

The Fountain has a lot of spirit activity, in fact there are only a couple of rooms that nothing has happened in. I have had a lot of over night investigations from paranormal groups, and had mediums in at various times who have all come up with the same things. There are lots of stories surrounding the pub but I have never had time to verify them by research, all though I hope to start back at the records office when things get quiet in the pub. I have had sightings, noises, footsteps, singing, whistling all reported by staff and guests and also poltergeist activity, such as customers being poked, hair pulling and things being moved. The most recent was a man being pushed back on his bed when trying to get up to go to the loo! My spirits are very friendly and protective of me and I only have one area that is 'dark.' more information coming soon...

The Haunch of Venison Inn, Salisbury
Spookily, this 18th century inn backs onto a graveyard, it is here where a lady wearing a white shawl has been seen, startled onlookers in the churchyard have seen her gazing down from the inn's upper windows, she is also a bit of a practical joker, re-arranging crockery is one of her favourite pastimes. Foosteps are regulary heard in the hours between 11.30 pm until midnight. A severed human hand was found by workmen in 1905, along with two yellowed playing cards, it is thought that the aggitated footsteps are of a spirit that may have had his hand chopped off whilst cheating at cards !
The Legendary Saltersgate Inn, North Yorkshire
Situated on the Whitby road, close to the Fylingdales RAF base - the pub is called legendary for good reason. The fire at the Saltersgate Inn, near Pickering has been lit for an incredible 189 years! Legend has it that the fire must remain lit or it will disturb the ghost of the customs and excise man killed when he caught fishermen salting their fish without paying the salt tax at the pub. There are other rumours that it was a witch who put a curse on the pub, but these facts still remain a mystery.

Haunted Mansions
Appuldercombe House
The spirit of a beautiful woman has been witnessed in the Stable Cottage. From the Gatehouse window figures have been seen moving from the gate down the drive. Unearthly noises are heard in the Stable Cottage when no one is there. Eerie shadows have been witnessed dancing on the walls of the cellars, and workers have had the sensation of being watched. An eerie presence is felt in the Gatehouse, while unseen hands leaf through the visitor's book. Many visitors have reported cold spots and unexplained temperature changes in the Great Hall. Visitors have felt that someone is brushing past them on the main staircase. A flickering candle is repeatedly spotted floating around the main staircase. A ghostly carriage has appeared on the pathway near the entrance to the grounds. Near the Freemantle Gate a boy's laughter has been heard
Arreton Manor,Isle Of Wight
Count Slade de Pomeroy used to own Arreton manor, it is written that he was often woken by sounds of tapping on the door in his bedroom, once opened the door no-one was there, then another time opening the door and he was pushed backwards by unseen hands. His housekeeper apparently saw who inflicted this upon the count, she said that she had seen two monks shove him, then they just disappeared. Chanting monks have been heard here too. Apparently there had been a vicious family murder and a young girl was pushed from a top window to her death many people think this has cause many of the hauntings here. A little child in a blue dress is often seen and heard, crying Mama Mama, she has been seen by a former worker of the residence. Another shade is of the figure of a woman wearing a red gown. Many visitors feel a sense of disorientation, feelings of been watched and foreboding they can no longer stay in the building. Lights have been on when no one was in the building.

Footsteps have been heard coming from the solar. After workman lifted floorboards after installing central heating, many phantoms were been witnessed. A ghost of a man wearing a brown robe and leather apron and a black velvet hat, also a knight in full armour, after the floorboards were relaid only then the ghostly visits stopped.

Ghost of children have been witnessed on the grand staircase. The halls cross passageway is also visited by the spectre of a limping manservant. The staff have been witness to much anomalous phenomena.

Location: Woodchester, Cotswolds, Gloucestershire.
Built: 1858
History:
The mansion was built in the French Gothic revival style. It was designed by the famous architect Benjamin Bucknall, for William Leigh, using local Cotswold limestone. The work on the house took many years and in 1870, after 16 years work, the workers downed tools many of the 79 rooms unfinished.
The mansion then fell into a state of disrepair and dereliction, with Victorian tools scattered across the site. Visitors can still see the Victorian tools in addition to half-carved gargoyles, doors leading nowhere and abruptly ending corridors.
Ghostly manifestations: Headless horse, floating coffin, hooded figure, spirit of a french man, tall man has been seen outside, invisible children have been heard playing.
Ghostly anomalies: Strange banging, voices, poltergesit activity, visitors have been prodded and pushed, blue lights, someone crying.

Location: Uley, Gloucestershire, England.
Built: Grade I listed, 1450, the deeds go back to 1210.
Ghostly manifestations: The grey lady ~ Queen Margaret of Anjou. There are some reports of a hooded figure' or Black Monk' who is said to haunt Owlpen. Some say he is Bartholomew de Olpenne whose family owned the manor in the 1100s, and who was walled up and starved to death in the manor. His bones were found but apparently crumbled to dust when the space came to light. A ghost of a mischievous child has been seen looking out of one of the windows when the house was empty.
Ghostly anomalies: Poltergeist activity in the attic presumably caused by the ghost of a wizard or alchemist, hooded figure, footsteps on the staircase, ghostly scents.

Exploration of the hauntings of the ruinous
My site is about my deep fascination with the paranormal, and my exploration of allegedly haunted places. "In every haunted location where human beings have lived and died, their emotions and their imprints are known to still remain in the ether". This is a popular belief amongst many.
This site is a working paranormal diary for me, my very own UK ghost tour if you like. I visit many allegedly haunted places around the country accompanied by my partner Richard and I like to make a personal log of each visit, taking notes, photographs, drawings, and compiling historical and ghostly research. I do carry a minimum of paranormal equipment on my visits, but its not going to prove to me one way of the other that the afterlife exists.
